Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead

Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot at in Amritsar, Punjab on Friday. He later succumbed to the bullet injuries. The incident took place outside a temple in the city where Shiv Sena leaders were protesting. During the agitation, someone from the crowd came and shot at him.

“Sudhir Suri was shot outside Gopal Mandir, Amritsar during some agitation. He sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to hospital and died,” Amritsar CP said.

Police said more than five shots were fired at Sudhir Suri after which he fell down on the ground. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to bullet injuries, police said. A video of the horrific moment Sudhir Suri fell down unconscious after he was shot was shared on social media.

Suri was in the hit list of several gangsters for a long time and was provided security by the government with around eight Punjab Police personnel being attached with him, they said.

Reacting to the incident, Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma said the law and order situation has completely broken down in the state.

Congress state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said the law and order in state was going from bad to worse.

The accused, identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Sultanwind area of Amritsar city, has been arrested and the weapon used in the crime seized, police said.
