BCCI Will Not End Their Deal With VIVO

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) is open to reviewing its policies for the next cycle of sponsorship deals, but has no plans to end its association with current IPL title sponsor Vivo, the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said the money coming in from the deal is helping India’s cause.

Anti-China sentiment is running high in India following the border clash at Galwan valley, and calls have been made to boycott Chinese products. But Dhumal — whose brother Anurag Thakur is a minister in the Central government — said Chinese companies sponsoring an Indian event like the IPL serves only India’s interests.

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said that they have a contract with Vivo till 2022. “As of now, there is no such plan,” said Dhumal to Sportstar. He added, “When we are allowing Chinese companies to sell their products in India, whatever money they are taking from the Indian customers, they are paying a part of it to the BCCI as brand promotion. The BCCI is paying 42 percent tax on that money to the Indian government. So, that way, it is supporting India’s cause and is not the other way round,”
He also said, “We need to think rationally. Today, if we officially decide against buying Chinese products, I am all for it. But now that the Chinese products are being sold, what’s the (problem)? The money is not going out of India.”

The money is coming in, not going out. Dhumal said that Vivo sponsorship is bringing money in, nothing is going out according to Dhumal.
He also said that the revenue which Chinese company makes by selling their product in India is not solely taken by them, BCCI also gets apart from it in the name of brand promotion. And BCCI pays 42% as tax out of it to the Indian government.
BCCI treasurer said that money from Chinese companies is helping them a lot, so there is no problem with this. He also said we can get some money from non-Chinese companies also.
Dhumal said that I am in support of not buying Chinese products, but if Chinese companies are allowed to do business in India then there is no problem in getting sponsorships from the,
We will not give contracts of building and developing infrastructure to Chinese companies, that is for sure.
