14-year-old winner of KBC is now Porbandar SP

From school, Saini went on to pursue his MBBS and did internships before clearing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination to become an IPS officer of Gujarat cadre in 2014.

Ravi Mohan Saini, the 14-year old boy who had won Rs 1 crore in the junior contest of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) in 2001 took charge as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Porbandar on Tuesday.

Mohan (33), a resident of Alwar in Rajasthan completed his MBBS before cracking the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. He later became an IPS officer of Gujarat cadre in 2014.

The son of a retired Navy officer, Saini was in class 10 when he appeared in KBC Junior, one of the most popular Indian reality TV shows. In a 2017 interview with TOI, he said, “I was the winner of Rs 1 crore. However, I got Rs 69 lakh after deduction of taxes, four years later.”

After Saini completed his schooling, he enrolled into Mahatma Gandhi Medical College in Jaipur for doing MBBS and also cleared UPSC soon after. His father was in the navy and he joined the police force after being inspired by him.

As per the rules of the show, the prize money is given to the winners after they turn 18.

Earlier, he was Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 1 in Rajkot city.

In his new role as SP, Saini will ensure the law and order situation in Porbandar during the lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19.
