Who is Tejasvi Surya? Youngest BJP candidate Lauds BJP’s Performance In GHMC Polls

The youngest candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party, 28-year-old lawyer and vice-president of the Karnataka BJP Yuva Morcha Tejasvi Surya, is the centre of party and Opposition’s attention

Tejasvi Surya was born in Bangalore, Karnataka on 16 November 1990 to mother Rama and father L. A. Suryanarayana, who had previously been Joint Commissioner of Excise.

He later graduated from Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies with a Bachelor of Academic Law and an LLB. He is trained in Carnatic music and founded an NGO called Arise India, which works in the area of school education. He has previously written for IndiaFacts. Surya considers B. R. Ambedkar as an inspiration since childhood.
The youngest candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party, 28-year-old lawyer and vice-president of the Karnataka BJP Yuva Morcha Tejasvi Surya, has emerged as the centre of the party and Opposition’s attention.

Surya is a strong supporter of Hindutva. He credits Swami Vivekananda, BR Ambedkar, Aurobindo and Vir Savarkar for inspiring him and shaping his ideology of Hindutva and Indian cultural pride. He is an RSS swayamsevak and has been a supporter of same-sex marriage. He attributed the Citizenship Amendment Act protests to be led by ‘uneducated, illiterate, and puncture-wallahs’. He also said ‘namby-pamby secularism had no place in new India’. Surya had previously called the supporters of Narendra Modi as patriots, and claimed that those who did not support Modi were “anti-India”. On another occasion, he had said that the “BJP should unapologetically be a party for Hindus”.

Known for his hyperbole on social media and amplified cries of nationalism, Tejasvi has also been quite a sensation since the BJP named him the candidate for its prestigious Bengaluru South Lok Sabha seat, a seat that was widely expected to go to Tejaswini Ananthkumar, the widow of Union minister Ananth Kumar who died in November last year.

Tejasvi will contest against Congress’ BK Hariprasad in Bangalore South. He is the nephew of BJP lawmaker Ravi Subramanya.

Several reports have said that the decision to field Tejasvi instead of Tejaswini Ananthkumar was a combined decision of the BJP and RSS national leaderships. Leaders of both RSS and BJP have also applauded Tejasvi’s fiery speeches, which his critics have dubbed as polarising.

Recently, a five-year-old tweet by Tejasvi was circulated on social media which said: “With the exception of Women’s Reservation in Parliament, Modi govt agenda is inspiring. Dread the day when women’s reservation becomes reality”

We don’t need a translator, we wanted a CM who can work for public.

Brilliant new chapter for Telegana. Congrats Tejaswi and entire BJP team for the exemplorary work, there.

Tejasvi’s heavily nationalistic orientation and diatribe can be attributed to his closeness with the RSS and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in his younger days. After Tejasvi was announced as the BJP candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the young leader sent out several tweets thanking members of the Sangh Parivar, including national joint general secretary (organising) of the BJP BL Santhosh and top RSS functionary Mukunda CR, who was named Sah Sarkaryavah (Joint General Secretary) at the valedictory of a three-day Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) in March 2018.

Tejasvi Surya Lauds BJP’s Performance In GHMC Polls

Reacting to BJP’s impressive performance in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, BJP’s Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) chief Tejasvi Surya on Friday said that the people of ‘Bhagyanagar’ have voted for good governance, value-based politics and inclusive development. Highlighting the rejection of ‘family-owned parties’, ‘corrupt administration’ and ‘anti-Hindu politics’, BJYM chief said that the results of the GHMC polls mark the beginning of a new era in Telangana. ‘BJP is the future,’ he added.

While thanking the people of ‘Bhagyanagar’ for the ‘love, trust and faith’ reposed for BJP in the GHMC elections, Tejasvi Surya assured that the party will give its best. He also said that the young generation of Telangana will take the lead in building a new future.
