Shashi Tharoor, the former diplomat and current Indian politician celebrates his 60th on the 9th of March. While the man is often applauded for his stand on the country and proudly representing India on various International platforms (the latest being questioning the Britishers about the atrocities of British rule), his personal life has always been questionable.
Having had numerous marriages and affairs in the past, including the most controversial incident of his 3rd wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death, his alleged womanising persona seems to have affected his political life to quite an extent.
If one sets aside all the unruly details of his personal life, Shashi Tharoor has truly been one of the most intellectual politicians the country has ever seen. Apart from his political career, Tharoor is also an acclaimed writer and has so far authored over 15 books. He has also been an avid columnist for respectable newspapers like the New York Times, Washington Post, The Hindu and many more.

Shashi Tharoor first married Tilottama Mukherji, the granddaughter of Kailashnath Katju. A mix of Bengali and Kashmiri, Tilottama was a perfect combination of beauty with brains.
The duo had two children Kanishk and Ishan. After a few years into the marriage, the couple decided to part and went their own ways.

After the split with Tilottama, Shashi Tharoor went onto tie the knot with Christa Giles. The duo were said to be involved in a long affair before plunging into marriage. This affair occurred during Tharoor’s stint at the UN.

After his decision to enter politics at the time, Tharoor and Christa’s world seemed to be falling apart. Although Tharoor often spoke of the painful separation, the duo tried one last time to revive their marriage with a holiday together in Udaipur.

Things however failed to work and the duo filed for a divorce soon after. If rumour mills are to be believed, their split is said to have occurred due to Tharoor’s closeness with Sunanda Pushkar.

Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda Pushkar tied the knot in the year 2010. Their marriage ceremony soon became the talk of the town and the duo gathered much attention and gossip; this was afterall a third marriage for both.

After a few years into their marriage, rumours of a rift between the duo began surfacing. A few days before Sunanda’s controversial death, she accused Tharoor of having an affair with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.
on after, Sunanda was found dead in a hotel room in Delhi on 17th January 2014. Although several investigations took place, reports often indicated her death to overdose of prescribed drugs.

Mehr Tarar is the Pakistani journalist Sunanda accused Tharoor of having an affair with. Although no solid proof of the duos affair emerged post Sunanda’s death, grapevine suggests Tharoor didn’t proceed after all the controversies that surrounded him.
